Dear mIRC User,

mIRC version 6.03 has been released, thursday, August 16th, 2002. You are
receiving this email because you have subscribed to the mIRC release mailing
list. The new version of mIRC is available from http://www.mirc.com/ and
from all fast mirrors around the world. We have also provided a few download
addresses below.

With this new release we hope to address most, if not all, of the comments,
requests and remarks we recieved over the past weeks. We tried to focus on
fixing the few but annoying buggies found in the previous version, but of
course added quite a few new features and functions.

On a personal note, allow me to point you to the appeal on the mIRC website?
If you register your copy of mIRC this month, 100% of your registration will
be donated to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent
Societies for use in their Southern Africa food crisis appeal.

Thanks for using mIRC, lots of fun on IRC!

                Tjerk Vonck.

* How to upgrade?

As you know mIRC is distributed in a self-extracting cabinet (mirc603.exe)
that helps you to install mIRC on your PC. Simply download the cabinet and
run the installer. Follow the instructions the installer program gives to
you. When upgrading all your old settings and scripts will stay as they
were, if you want that. Read the questions the installer program asks with
care and nothing can go wrong. You will be chatting with the new mIRC in no
time. If you get stuck or if you want to find out more about a certain
feature, just click on a Help button or browse the Help file and you should
find lots of hints to help you out. We also give some information on
changed, improved and fixed features and functions below.

* Where to download?

For the latest download addresses just go to the mIRC website. As a special
service to you we included some links below where mIRC is available already;

Thailand       http://www.karnt.com/mirc/mirc603.exe
Missouri       http://mirc.ircadmin.net/mirc603.exe
Germany        http://www.mirc-help.de/mirc/mirc603.exe
Singapore      http://www.ncmbox.net/mirc/mirc603.exe
France         http://www.model-fx.com/mirc/files/mirc603.exe
North Carolina http://red.aginet.com/mirc/mirc603.exe

On the mIRC websites also the new mIRC FAQ version 52 (mfaq52hp.zip) is
available. The FAQ answers a lot of questions regarding mIRC, IRC, DCC and
the like. It also includes a tutorial on Aliases, Popups and on
'programming' the Tools/Remote section. Development of mIRC's 16 bit issue
has been stopped. The most recent 16 bit mIRC version is 5.91. It's
installer is named mirc591s.exe. You can still download this older version
from the mIRC website.

* Shareware

As you know mIRC is shareware. It can be downloaded freely and evaluated for
30 days. Assuming you find that you enjoy using mIRC, it would be great if
you registered your copy. This licenses you to keep your copy of mIRC and
helps to support our continued work on mIRC. We offer a one time
registration, which works with all future versions of mIRC. You will never
need to register again.

* Improvements and new features:

The 'perform on connect' sorting mistake has been fixed, also the numeric
330 bug, the flickering menubar and toolbar, the ! on INPUT processing bug,
the $read and a similar freeze bug with invalid filenames, a switchbar
multi-line display bug, dcc ignore bug, a /timer bug, and a bug in the
highlight feature are fixed. The $ticks has changed back to the old method
because of a bug in Windows' high performance timer... *mumble*

Other fixes are the /load command that could trigger multiple on load
events, a proxy authentication bug, the $asctime() bug, a small dcc server
ignore bug, and an important memory bug in script parser, where mIRC checks
if a script has been loaded/unloaded while a script is running.

mIRC now supports several IRCX events on any server that sends them, not
just for IRCX servers, it will (again) try to rejoin a channel even if it
was +i or +k, we improved the way mIRC determines what default web browser
you use, rewrote the mark/copy routine, and added a $nick().idle property
that returns the idle time for a person on a channel. You can also use this
idle time feature in the nick color list dialog in the addressbook!

I assume you know that you have to dig through the help file and the
versions.txt file included with mIRC to learn about the complete list of
changes and their impact? If you have questions, may I invite you to the
Message Boards on mIRC's website? These discussion forums offer great help
with everything related to mIRC and its features.

May I remind how in version 6.0 multi-server support was added? With this
feature mIRC allows you to connect to multiple servers at the same time.
You'll notice the 'Multi-Server' button that provides a couple of new
options supporting this new feature. If you have not upgraded recently, this
is the moment to get 6.03!

* What is this mailing list and how can you unsubscribe?

This mIRC release mailing list is a low volume, low frequency announcement
list. Typically you will get one message right after each mIRC release, only
a few times a year. The last time was 2 months ago, in June. The list is not
a discussion list, there is only one person posting; me - the listmaster of
mIRC Co. Ltd. We will not use or abuse this list for other messages. It is
very easy to get removed from this list. Just use the unsubscribe form found
on the mailing lists page on the mIRC website;
