Design Patterns by Cameron Childress

Ever hear of "gang of four" or "design patterns"? How about "factory methods", "front controllers" or "singletons"? Have you ever wondered what all of this means? Why do people blog about this stuff? Cameron will walk us through the common design patterns found in the web development world and how they were developed. Everyone uses one or more design patterns, but many do not even know it or fully understand the implications of the pattern they use. What are their respective benefits and more importantly what are their draw backs? If you want to understand how to develop your sites better and smarter, you really can't afford to miss this presentation. Knowing design patterns is critical to understanding how to properly develop applications.

The Social Media Landscape by Cheyenne Throckmorton

Ever find yourself being asked or even asking yourself these questions: Does my application reach the net native generation? -Aren't net natives programmers that stayed glued to the screen like a locker gnome. Does your site integrate with the Facebook, Myspace or OpenSocial? -Ugh, not this media mularkey, isn't that just for creepy stalkers? Have I been dugg lately? -My mom digs me but why did you spell dugg wrong? Am I delicious? -Only with garlic cloves your creepy emo vampire. Tweet? Tweet? Follow Me? YouTube it to me. -Follow the birds?? I can't fly. Ack. What? You mean "U-Tube" doesn't mean number one supplier of used Tube, Pipe and Rollform Equipment in the world to everbody anymore? Cheyenne will guide us through these questions and more on a quick sweeping tour of a variety of new players in the social media market. In this brief overview, we will cover what is different about net native generation (~18-24), how they participate online and why the world cares. In addition, we'll look at this variety of tools and show how they can dramatically change both your professional and personal lives in just a few short days.
