Guys and gals, As many of you know, WISPA has been fighting to make TV white space available for unlicensed users for at least the last five years. We're continuing to fight right now. We beat the TV broadcasters only to have the mobile broadband companies emerge as our biggest threat for this spectrum. They would like to have it all auctioned off to them via "incentive auctions". Then they could keep us out of most or all of the TVWS spectrum that we expected to use. We need to be doing two things. 1. Keep fighting to retain as much TV white space spectrum FOR UNLICENSED USE as possible. 2. Occupy TVWS. Use it now so that we show the public that we need it and that we're using it. By using it, we reduce the chances of it being taken away. It's simple really - USE IT OR LOSE IT. Today, while TVWS equipment is still going through the FCC lab certification tests, it IS possible to use TVWS by using equipment that is not yet certified. This is legal when you apply to the FCC for a Special Temporary Authorization (STA). Once the equipment gains FCC certification, the STA will no longer be needed. To help WISPA Members successfully deploy equipment and OCCUPY TVWS, WISPA has started a new Members-only email list <[email protected]>. To subscribe to this list, please email me <[email protected]> or Alex Phillips <[email protected]> and tell us what email address you want to use on this new list. NOTE: If your email domain name is different than your WISPA membership email domain, please also tell us which WISPA Member company you are employed by. FURTHER NOTE: We will be performing membership verification checks for all subscription requests so if you are not yet a WISPA Member, you may want to join before you submit your subscription request.
