Save Rural Broadband and Unlicensed Wireless - CALL TO ACTION

Government Regulation Continues to

Eliminate Small Businesses.

It has to STOP!

In March, the FCC changed the rules for a portion of the 5 GHz unlicensed
spectrum band.  This particular band has been a "workhorse" for WISPs, School
Systems, County Governments, Grain, Aggregate, Gas and Oil, and many other
Industries to deliver data, Voice over IP, and Broadband Internet across the
entire nation, particularly in rural areas where broadband choices are slim to
none.

The rule change will dramatically impact existing and future investments that
have been made.  It will mean many consumers and businesses in rural areas will
either lose their current Internet Provider, service will be degradated, or
service will become more expensive.

For those who are more technical, the FCC has applied FCC 47CFR Section 15.407
rules to the 5.725 GHz - 5.85 GHz band.  This band was previously governed by
the less stringent FCC 47CFR Section 15.247 rules.  This will cause either:

Operators will need to reduce transmit power or antenna gain, which drastically
reduces link distance (estimated to be 65% loss).  Therefore, link distances
today of 10 miles, will be reduced to 3.5 miles.
Manufacturers will need to install expensive filtering in all radios.
Manufacturers have estimated this will cost an additional $300 per radio and
will reduce available spectrum by 80 MHz.  This is approximately a 65% loss of
spectrum in order to reduce out of band emissions with the filters.  The loss
of spectrum will mean customer broadband speeds will be reduced!
This ruling makes literally no sense, when the nation is pushing for higher
broadband speeds and ubiquitous broadband coverage across the entire US.  If
