I am giving this a try and created a ansible module to manage proxmox container. It uses the proxmoxer library to communicate with proxmox via the API.
At this stage this modules stability is at "works for me", I'll need to do a bit more work to document and add some examples and make sure it works on more than my server. I'll create a module for managing VM's at some stage for now I am only using containers. The module can be found here: https://github.com/martinslabber/ansible_modules-proxmox I'll appreciate more experienced ansible users to comment on it, I am very new to ansible.
