Thank you.  I added the following and now everything is working great!

ansible.cfg:

[ssh_connection]
ssh_args = -F ssh.config
pipelining = True


ssh.config:
Host *
 ControlMaster auto 
 ControlPersist 60s 
 ControlPath ~/.ssh/ansible-%r@%h:%p
