Well, if such a thing ever happens in the JDK, it won't be a front end to
many different regexp engines. After all, there is no need for that much
flexibility. All there is need for is regexp functionality.
And the earliest we'll see it is JDK 1.4 -- and here we are talking about
how much longer to support JDK 1.1.
