After having given this offer some thought, I must decline for the moment. Also, as was observed by someone else, it isn't really the time to actually implement this functionality. I simply wanted to raise the point that, given that continuity from one version of a 'build language' to the next is a desirable, the prospect of a distributed Ant would be something to keep in mind when proposing 'language changes'.
It might also pay to observe, in this debate, that if you're talking about designing a language, most (all?) successful artificial languages came from high theoretical grounds, with grammars and datatypes and the like. A language is one thing that is not likely to evolve very usefully, ( just look at English :-) . I have yet to see people talking outside of the context of the simple constructions of 'target' and 'task'. What about 'dependency', or 'buildstate'? Is it possible to profile a given tool in terms of the number/type of its output given it's input? Maybe Ant2 is not the place for these sorts of questions though. regards, David.
