Merant has decided to leverage the familiarity of the name PVCS and make a line of products named PVCS X. The product most people call PVCS is now PVCS Version Manager. PVCS Dimensions is another product that not only provides SCM, but also allow you to configure your change processes. The products are developed separately and do not share any interfaces.
Currently Merant only supports their own version of Make, but I have sent my task to some of their development team and consultants and have received positive feedback.
