Apart from the fact that there are more tasks that use MergeMappers, your patch wouldn't take things like the prefix and fullpath attributes of <zipfileset> into account. I agree that SourceFileScanner is the way to go and I'm going to look into it in the next few days, but I'm going to approach it from a different angle.
