If we went to httpclient we'd fix this, but if we shipped as is now, we couldnt introduce a dependency on httpclient later on. And if we depend on httpclient, we need to fix on a version (Axis is debating pulling their support out till a 1.0 version of the httpclient ships, as it is too hard to field calls against the many nightly builds that people use).
