Ah! There is no optional.jar. (There was no optional.jar in the
distribution; is that a separate download?) I'd been assuming that the
doc's reference to "optional.jar" meant junit.jar, in this context.

property java.class.path (this is just after task loading) and check if
there is optional.jar and junit.jar.
