Thank you. Using the information in your reply I have been able to make use of Ant, 
Junit and log4j. I removed any attempt within my
code to configure log4j and allow log4j to find the configuration file which I now 
pass as a sysproperty. I had to tweak the
classpath one more time and I'm now operational.
