They're just "at-files" (ie., list-files passed with @filename), named with "jikes-..." for historical reasons. (BTW: I assume you've been control-C'ing your builds, since I think that's the only time they get left around.) If you wanted to, you could dip your toe into Ant source by providing a patch for .../taskdefs/compilers/DefaultCompilerAdapter.java to change it to something else.
