Hey, no ill will meant to the Ant builders because I think Ant is great, but if I could diverge for a moment...all depends on your time scale. I am a perl freak that has used perl for years to build all of my java code. I like it because it is somewhat portable. And by this I mean that once you learn the language, it will work on almost any platform(but usually your same scripts will need tweeking for another OS). Usually the company you work for will have a standard platform that they use for building, and porting to another platform will not be an issue.
However...because I am also a Java(and XML) freak...I am very favorable to Ant and my current project leadership has decided to make our builds using Ant. This said...I have spent the last 4 days trying to get my build.xml file to do what I want. Granted, I am new to using Ant and have had to work through some of our project-specific issues, but I know that I could have accompilshed the same thing with perl in less than a day. So, the question is...'do I do it quick using what I know, or do I do it using Ant...and learn something new?'. Personally...I think that if you can afford the extra time, it is worth learning something new. Not to mention, that Ant looks like it will truly be the new 'Super-Make' standard. I love standardization(although I am not a socialist), and the more people that adopt the Ant model the better!! So, in closing, it all comes down to answering the question above...do it quick with what you know or do it with Ant. But, I believe that Ant offers the possiblility of standardization...which makes everyone's life easier.
