Subject: [C-I] "we don't yield to pressures" - unless hard currency is
involved

"Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic told today's Novi Sad Gradjanski List
that nobody should expect the Serbian Government to yield and bow under
pressures."

As we saw on April 1st, and on Vidovdan.

FINANCE MINISTER VOWS NOT TO YIELD TO TU PRESSURE OVER ZASTAVA

Belgrade Tanjug (Domestic Service) in Serbo-Croatian 1015 GMT 20 Jul 01

Novi Sad, 20 July (Tanjug) -- Republican
Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic told today's Novi Sad Gradjanski List
that nobody should expect the Serbian Government to yield and bow under
pressures.

The reason for the interview was the incident that took place in
Kragujevac yesterday, when Djelic and his colleagues, Privatization and
Economy Minister Aleksandar Vlahovic and Labor Minister Dragan
Milovanovic, tried to acquaint the Zastava workers with the program of
strategic consolidation of the company.

"At one moment, thinking that we are trying to run away, a small
group of workers smashed most of Minister Vlahovic's car, something that
should not been done. However, we were not physically attacked," Djelic
said.

Asked whether the Zastava workers were instrumentalized yesterday,
Djelic stressed that he "thinks that some political forces have been
trying to instrumentalize workers and trade unions," but that he is
convinced "there is sufficient reasoning in this country to make this the
beginning of solutions to the most difficult issues and not of a hot
fall."

The fall is not going to be easy, because the situation is not easy,
however it will not get out of control in any case. "There is enough
reasoning in our county to maintain social peace, without any major
incidents," Djelic said.
