[I'm going to be in Ecuador so I won't be able to attend this TASC event, but
can someone in TO please look to come out to these to spread the word about
the NATO summit in October and maybe pass out some flyers. cheers!]

<< Subj: Sunday Against Star Wars Aug. 12
Date: 30/07/01 21:43:49 Eastern Daylight Time
 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (TASC)

Two Toronto Events to Protest Canada's Involvement in Star Wars and Space
Warfare take place the afternoon of Sunday, August 12.

 1. Picnic with the War Minister, 2 pm, Lissom Park, two traffic lights
north of Finch and Bathurst Sts., 1 and a half blocks east of Bathurst.
Getting there: Take subway to Finch station, Finch bus west to Bathurst,
Bathurst bus north to Patricia Ave., turn right.
War Minister Art Eggleton is one of Canada's biggest boosters of
space warfare and is desperate to get onside with the Bush NMD plan. He has
refused to comply with demands across the country that Canada spend more on
homes, not bombs. Join us for this nonviolent information picket and chance
to dialogue with the war minister at his annual constituency picnic.
If you have a car and can haul folks up there, give us a call at
416 651-5800. If you would like to be in a carpool, call us at 651-5800 as
well and we'll see if we can coordinate things!
Sponsored by Toronto Action for Social Change, Homes not Bombs Toronto, and
Country Music Fans Against the Militarization of Space, whose motto of
"Twang, not Tang" is part of the growing campaign against powdered orange
juice in space and on terra firma (stay tuned!)

 2. Education Event: Canada, Globalisation and Star Wars
4 pm, OISE, 2nd floor, 252 Bloor St. West (St. George subway)
A discussion of what NMD is, how star wars fits the description of the FIST
of globalization, and how Canada is actively involved in the research,
development, and promotion of space warfare.
Representatives of Science for Peace and Homes not Bombs speak as part of
the Mobilisation for Global Justice Solidarity Sunday series. If you are a
good audience, they might break out their soft shoe routine, "That's
National Defense" (sung to the tune of That's Entertainbment!) (the event
has been endorsed by Broadway Music Fans Against the Militarization of
Space, a splinter group which has yet to resolve the Tang question)
