(NYSE: YUM) announced today that KFC is reporting for duty as the first of its three restaurant brands to be built inside the vast military complex with more than 20,000 working personnel. Today's announcement highlights Tricon's highly successful Multibranding Express Program that combines two or three brands under one roof. Tricon is the world's largest multibranded company. The first KFC Express Unit is expected to open this fall. In early 2002, Tricon plans to build KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell Express Units in the Pentagon's Main Food Court as well. "We are delighted that the Pentagon has chosen all three of Tricon's world-class brands to serve its 20,000-plus employees," said Jeff Hebig, Vice President and General Manager, Tricon Express, Tricon Global Restaurants. "We are proud to provide our high-quality products while offering Pentagon employees greater freedom of choice, convenience and value. Combining the world's leading chicken, pizza and Mexican-style food in one location creates an anchor for the Pentagon's premier food court," Hebig added. Tricon will work through The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) to provide food service support to the Pentagon. "Our extensive research with our Navy customers has shown that people want name brand fast foods such as KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell," said Ron Carlson, NEXCOM's Branch Manager, Food Service Program. "Tricon is uniquely positioned to provide three brands in one location at the Pentagon," Carlson added. Multibranding is considered the ultimate consumer and shareholder win. Consumers enjoy the wide variety of products found at a single location while Tricon leverages the return on its investment by attracting higher sales volumes from one site. Tricon has Express versions of all three brands, providing high quality, convenient, popular products such as KFC's Original Recipe Chicken Sandwiches, Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizzas and Taco Bell tacos and burritos. Tricon has approximately 3,000 Express Units strategically located in high traffic locations such as airports, expressways, malls, mass merchandisers, stadiums, arenas, colleges and universities. Tricon now operates 1,300 multibrand restaurants that combine two or three brands under one roof. The company expects to have approximately 1,600 multibrand restaurants in operation by the end of 2001. As the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, the Pentagon is virtually a city in itself with floor space greater than three times that of the Empire State Building in New York. Built during the early years of World War II, the defense establishment is considered one of the most efficient buildings. Despite more than 17 miles of corridors, it takes only seven minutes to walk between any two points in the building and even includes its own subway. Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc.
