The three Macedonians from the village of Trudence were abducted in their car, sources from the Tetovo police department told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. Rebels of the ethnic Albanian National Liberation Army (UCK) are currently holding nine Macedonian hostages. Meanwhile, Tetovo was calm but very tense Wednesday due to the rebels' presence not only in the villages around the city but also in the center, eyewitnesses said. According to the Macedonian Red Cross, a total of 75,878 displaced persons have been registered. Most of the displaced persons or 47,148 are from Tetovo and the surrounding area, while 16,266 are from Kumanovo village, 8,278 are from Skopje and Aracinovo and 4,186 displaced persons are from area of Skopska Crna Gora mountain. Meanwhile, Slavic Macedonians displaced from their homes gave up a nine-day blockade of Macedonia's border with Yugoslavia at Tabanovci, MIA reported. They had blocked the border to put pressure on the government in Skopje to allow them to return to their homes. They ended their protest after talks with government negotiators.
