Visit our website: HTTP://WWW.STOPNATO.ORG.UK --------------------------------------------- Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit USA ALL THE WAY? by Wayne Sumstine As someone who once worked in the World Trade Center myself, and as someone with friends in lower Manhattan who are even now displaced from their homes, I believe I sense the new dangers that we all sense in a personal way, and I trust my perspective on the recent tragedy is not skewed by those sensations. If the USA is standing tall in this time of trial, it's like the empty husk of a brittle reed. By all accounts, the American way of life and what we value most -- free-flowing oil from our restless Arab colonies and cheap consumer goods produced by disposable corporate serfs -- is under direct attack, and we will not shrink from that fight. Not yet, anyway. Even the poorest among us, already shorn of half of our earnings so our politicians can use it to cling to power and protect the business oligarchy they serve, are now being called upon to give even more to beef-up their security. And we'll do it, gladly, because we are sheep being led to the slaughter. So far, aside from the inevitable toll in lives, we Americans haven't really lost anything meaningful in this war, except our sense of justice for others. So, who on earth would dare to blame us when all we are demanding now is justice for ourselves? The Congress and the President say they will choose our enemies for us, chase them down and hit them hard. Then, we will all feel good, and be proud of our masters. Until, of course, their enemies simply hit us back. Us and our children. Twice as hard, twice as viciously, twice as often. We are told this could be a long, difficult road we are on, but we are not traveling it alone. Many other governments are standing beside ours. And they will, for as long as we have what it takes to buy their allegiance or can bully them into temporary submission against the wills of their own people. But before we really begin this fight in earnest, let's pause for a moment of silence to thank first, our television pundits for always helping us to focus our united patriotism on nothing useful at all, and second, our religious leaders for continuing to echo their ear-tickling pabulum through the vacuums of our empty minds and hollow spirits. The justice we now demand will be served soon enough; but by then will there be any among us who will not wish we had instead asked for mercy? Meanwhile, it's "baaah, baaah, baaah" and "hooray for the red white and blue."
