'No plans for British forces to join US deployment' - Ananova

British defence officials say its joint exercise with Oman in the Persian
Gulf region will continue as planned, despite the deployment of US combat
aircraft to the area.
The UK has substantial forces in the region as part of the long-planned
joint exercise.
British assets include an aircraft carrier, four frigates, two destroyers, a
helicopter carrier, assault craft, four minehunters, an armoured division
and more than 50 aircraft and helicopters.
A defence spokeswoman said there had been "no discussions" about any of the
British forces joining the US deployment, called Operation Infinite Justice.
"The exercises in Oman are continuing exactly as planned," the spokeswoman
said.
According to the ministry, 8,500 personnel, 24 ships - the first of which
left for the region last month - and two nuclear submarines are taking part
in the exercise, called Saif Sareea II.
The Pentagon has ordered fighter and bombers to begin moving to the Persian
Gulf area, the first concrete sign of preparations to retaliate for last
week's terrorist attacks.
