Hello Heather:
I faxed what I think is the last draft of an employment agreement to DC
today. We are supposed to sign on Monday and I'm to start on 10/15. It has
been a long and somewhat grueling process, but I think the wait will prove
to have been well worth it.
I will be in DC five days/four nights; NYC two days/three nights. Kath is
doing her best to be optimistic, but she is definitely not happy with the
arrangement. Her response comes down to:
1. DC is not a place she is willing to consider moving to.
2. She understands the political importance of the job for me, personally.
3. She can handle anything for a year.
So that's the basis on which I am taking the plunge, including a significant
pay cut, which is going to go to Amtrak. Irritating in the extreme to think
of the TGV whizzing from Paris to Bordeaux at 150 mph for about $40 each
way. $70 is the cheapest on the over-hyped and under-performing NYC-DC run.
Re: your messages. I cannot seem to make heads of tails of them lately,
because they always respond to some prior message or article which I do not
seem to have access to. I have sometimes tried linking to the antinato site
to see if something obvious comes up there, but no luck so far. Please
advise me as to what I'm doing wrong.
Let us hope that the people of conscience mobilize more rapidly, show a
greater depth of outrage, and continue to demonstrate their firm opposition
to the war party. If it fizzles the way Gulf War opposition did, I fear we
are in for an accelerating period of international disintegration and
barbarism.
I hope to have dinner with you before I go south, but cannot hope to do so
in the next two weeks. Perhaps the week of Oct 8-14?
