Fur-Free Friday 2001

The day after Thanksgiving is known as one of the busiest shopping days of
the year. Because of this, it's also an international day of
action against the fur industry. This year, COK celebrated Fur-Free Friday
with a 75-person strong demonstration in front of the D.C.
Neiman Marcus.

In addition to the activists, many members of the media also attended the
demonstration. The Washington Times, Associated Press TV, Getty
Photo Agency, WAMU 88.5 FM, Free Speech TV, and PETA TV covered the event.

Despite the protest being peaceful and legal, police officers took every
opportunity to harass activists, issuing four parking-related tickets to
activists at the protest (all are being contested). Aside from the tickets,
one officer (Officer Morris, badge # 980) made a habit of getting
nose-to-nose with activists in an immature attempt to provoke a response.
