Council resolution Tehran, Dec 15, IRNA -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi on Saturday denounced the US veto of the UN Security Council resolution condemning all terrorist acts against civilians, executions without trial and excessive use of force against Palestinians. Asefi said that the US has stood against the demand of the international community. He said that the defenseless Palestinian nation has been exposed to Israeli attacks every day, while the US is pressing on with the old means of the cold war era and the bankrupt policy of iron-fist to support Israeli state terrorism. He said that dispatch of international observer force under the umbrella of the United Nations is the only way to stop bloodshed in occupied Palestinian territories and called for the Secretary-General Kofi Annan's personal intervention and active role of the Islamic and Arab states to stop Israeli violence against the Palestinians. Once again, the United States took an active step to support Israeli state terrorism as it has done several times before to undermine the international community's resolve to stop bloodshed in the Middle East. The US killed a UN resolution on Saturday urging monitors in the West Bank and Gaza on grounds it was biased and would not promote the peace process. Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine on Saturday described as 'incomprehensible' the US veto of UN Security Council Resolution. IRNA correspondent in Brussels quoted Vedrine as saying on the sidelines of the European Union summit in Laeken, Belgium as saying, "The American veto of a reasonable resolution of the Security Council which envisaged an impartial mechanism for Middle East surveillance is all the more incomprehensible since the US had accepted it at the G-8 meeting in Genoa, Italy."
