Additional forces have been deployed and patrols increased in the ethnically mixed town of Kosovska Kamenica, 35 miles east of the provincial capital, Pristina, said Squadron Leader Daz Slaven, a spokesman for the NATO-led peace force in Kosovo. The midnight to 5 a.m. curfew in the town was extended to begin at 6 p.m., Slaven said. Sunday's explosion was the latest in a series of violent incidents in Kosovska Kamenica, although it was the first to claim a life. In a statement, NATO's top commander in Kosovo, Lt. Gen. Marcel Valentin, condemned "this and any acts of interethnic violence." In a separate incident, a mob attacked four U.N. police officers and stoned their cars Sunday in northern Kosovo after NATO-led peacekeepers raided a bar and detained a Serb hardline activist. The officers, who had been patrolling nearby, were not injured. The crowd also burned tires during the unrest in the Serb-dominated part of Kosovska Mitrovica and attacked the homes of several U.N. police officers, U.N. police spokesman Derek Chappell said. No one was injured.
