In the world there are a lot of international and national holidays. However, there are not such holidays of reverence for great men and worship for the sun as the birthdays of great President Kim Il Sung and Marshal Kim Jong Il, which the entire humankind significantly commemorates as international holidays century after century, disregarding the differences in nationality, social system and custom. To commemorate the Day of the Sun and February 16 as grand international political festivities is an earnest desire of all the progressives of the world. Reflecting the unanimous desire of the world progressives, the preparation to commemorate the Day of the Sun and celebrate February 16 in 2002 has been steadily promoted throughout the world since last year, the first year of the new century. On January 5 last year a meeting was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to celebrate February 16, in which an appeal to commemorate the birthdays of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il as grand international political festivities was adopted amid warm applause of the participants. In February a seminar on the Juche idea for the independent development of Africa in the 21st century held in Uganda and an extraordinary meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee for Supporting the Reunification of Korea held in Colombia adopted appeals respectively. Calling for greeting the Day of the Sun and February 16 in 2002 most auspiciously, the appeals proposed to convene a world conference of Juche idea study groups and believers across the world and hold a grand gathering to celebrate the sun of the 21st century on the occasion of the holidays. Responding to the proposal, the participants in the first Latin American conference on the Juche idea in the 21st century held in March appealed to all the Juche idea study groups and believers to attend the world conference with tangible and proud successes in their work and commemorate the 90th birthday of President Kim Il Sung most significantly. In April last year the 8th meeting of the executive council of the board of directors of the International Institute of the Juche Idea discussed the agenda on commemorating the Day of the Sun and celebrating the February holiday most significantly. It adopted a special resolution, calling on the Juche idea study organizations of different countries to make tangible contributions to the grand festivities and organize the visit to the supreme temple of Juche and convene a world conference on the Juche idea. The special resolution enjoyed absolute support and approval from the Juche idea study organizations in different countries. In support of the resolution meetings were held and declarations, resolutions and programs were adopted by Juche idea study groups in different countries including Bulgaria, Madagascar and Peru. Juche idea study groups, friendship organizations and prominent figures of many countries including Russia, Uganda, Switzerland, Portugal and Guyana issued statements, letters and press releases to support the special resolution. In human history there was not such a precedent that the birthday of a state leader was celebrated as a grand international holiday throughout the world. In case of the birthdays of great persons who made contributions to human history, state leaders of other countries sent congratulatory messages, and small-scale commemorative meetings were held. The birthdays of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, however, are commemorated every year as international holidays common to humankind. In particular, preparations are promoted throughout the world to commemorate the Day of the Sun and February 16 this year most significantly. The Asian regional preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun in 2002 and greeting the sun of the 21st century was inaugurated in Katmandu, Nepal. A special resolution adopted at the inaugural ceremony stressed that the birthdays of great President Kim Il Sung and respected Marshal Kim Jong Il are not only the greatest national holidays of the Korean people but also great auspicious days for the world progressives who love independence, peace and justice. Noting that the friendship and solidarity organizations in different countries of Asia would form preparatory committees, the resolution set the period between June 30 last year and April 15 this year as a period for commemorating the Day of the Sun and greeting the sun of the 21st century. The resolution also said that in this period seminars, lecture meetings, book and photo exhibitions and other colorful events introducing the achievements of the great men of the century will be held in this region. Preparatory committees to commemorate the Day of the Sun and February 16 as grand political festivities throughout the world have been formed in different countries. A preparatory committee was formed in Poland first. Since then, special preparatory committees and national preparatory committees have been formed in more than 50 countries including Russia, Pakistan, Jordan, Guinea, Ecuador and Peru. At an inaugural meeting of the Lebanese preparatory committee, Mahmud Abudul Halak, vice-chairman of the Syrian National Socialist Baath Party in Lebanon, said that it is a boundless honor for the Lebanese and world progressives to greet the birthdays of President Kim Il Sung, sun of all people who made undying contributions to the independent development of humankind, and Comrade Kim Jong Il, defender of the socialist cause and great sun of the 21st century, as holidays common to humankind and grand international political festivities. Facts are enough to show how peerlessly great men the Korean people have as their leaders. In human history there were not such holidays as those of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il which are commemorated by all people of the world. Their birthdays are commemorated throughout the world because their idea, leadership and virtues are the best in the world. In all countries and in all ages it is only Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il who, endowed with great personality and quality, have created and enriched the guiding idea of the times and made immortal contributions to the cause of human independence. It is natural therefore that the entire humankind revere and worship them. The irresistible historical trend let the Korean people feel a great pride as the sun's nation. A nation cannot be great only by its large territory and population. It can be great only when it has a great leader. Cherishing the pride of having the peerlessly great men whom the world people absolutely worship and respect as the leaders of the nation, the Korean people will unfold a more dynamic struggle for national reunification in this meaningful year. Statement of the NDFSK Central Committee Now the south Korean people are indignant with the military authorities that have announced introduction of modern missiles while making desperate preparations for a war against north Korea, challenging to the desire of the nation to open a decisive phase in reunification under the uplifted banner of national independence this year. The military authorities announced that they will purchase 111 modern tactical ground-to-ground missiles with the range of 300 kilometers from the United States till 2004. What is more serious is that this missile is a modern lethal one which only the United States has introduced. In cooperation with the United States, the south Korean military authorities are hell bent on increasing modern war equipment from the beginning of the new year. This is a reckless and dangerous move to scrap the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and ignite a war against the north at any cost by straining the situation in Korea and driving the inter-Korean relations to confrontation. The NDFSK Central Committee, in the name of all people, bitterly condemns their move as a never-to-be-condoned arch crime to stifle the fellow countrymen in the north by joining in the US strategy of war against the north and as an anti-national and anti-reunification act challenging the unanimous desire of the 70 million Korean people to achieve the independent reunification of the nation by implementing the joint declaration. To oppose aggression and war moves and remove the danger of war and achieve reconciliation and unity between the south and the north are urgent tasks for guaranteeing peace in Korea and accelerating the independent reunification of the nation. Nevertheless, the military authorities, while paying lip service to the implementation of the joint declaration, are aggravating the inter-Korean relations through confrontation and war moves with the backing of the United States. Openly adhering to a theory of "arch enemy" against the fellow countrymen in the north, the south Korean warmongers have intensified war moves against the north, plotting to spend the blood tax collected from the people to purchase up-to-date war equipment. Due to their reckless move the danger of war grows in Korea, inter-Korean relations have faced a serious crisis and our nation's grand advance toward independent reunification met great difficulty. Their move to introduce missiles is a deliberate provocation to aggravate the inter-Korean relations and break peace and security in Korea. They must take the responsibility for the consequences to be entailed therefrom. Seeing clearly the desire of the entire nation and trend of the times, they must immediately stop the move to purchase lethal weapons and the treacherous act to bar the nation's efforts to implement the joint declaration. They must abandon the scheme to stifle the fellow countrymen in the north in conspiracy with outside forces. The US bellicose forces must discard its ill intention to invade the north and pull out its troops from this land, seeing our nation's will for reunification. All the south Korean people should unite as one to frustrate the war moves of the United States and the south Korean bellicose forces and energetically wage the anti-war and anti-US struggle to ensure peace and security of the nation. The NDFSK, together with all peoples desirous of peace and reunification, will remove the hotbed of war through resolute anti-war and anti-US struggle, defend security of the nation and accelerate the country's reunification. Central Committee, National Democratic Front of South Korea Seoul January 14, Juche 91 (2002) Ten major crimes committed by Lee Hoi-chang, president of the opposition Grand National Party in 2001 1. Lee Hoi-chang committed a treachery of actively supporting the Bush administration's missile policy and hard-line policy toward north Korea. The missile policy and hard-line policy of the Bush administration toward north Korea were opposed by almost all the countries of the world. Lee Hoi-chang, however, rendered positive support to Washington's missile policy and welcomed its tough policy toward the north. On January 19, 2001, he asserted that the US Republican hawks' hard-line policy toward the north coincided with the GNP's, mimicking Washington's clamor about "strict reciprocity", "reduction of conventional weapons " and "missile development". Thus, he fully revealed his nature as a pro-US flunkeyist traitor to the nation. 2. Lee Hoi-chang committed a rash act of complaining that Seoul did not curry favor with Washington at the south Korea-US summit meeting. At the south Korea-US summit talks held in Washington in May 2001, the south side suffered all sorts of insults. Disregarding etiquette, the US side reprimanded and admonished the south side throughout the talks. Washington pressed south Korea to reverse the diplomatic agreement concluded with Russia and ignored the pending issues between south and north Korea. Nevertheless, Lee, a top stooge of the United States, condemned the south side instead of feeling anger at the Yankees who insulted south Korea. At an executive meeting of the GNP held on March 12, he prattled that the south Korean authorities did not curry favor with Washington but evoked a diplomatic controversy to humiliate itself, thus enraging the people. 3. Lee Hoi-chang made a disgraceful advocacy against the withdrawal of the US troops from south Korea, arguing that the north Korea-Russia Moscow Declaration might lead to withdrawal of the GIs. The north Korea-Russia Moscow Declaration published on August 5, 2001 is a historic one which indicates the ways for securing peace of northeast Asia and the rest of the world, including the issue of withdrawal of the US forces from south Korea. Therefore, not only the Korean nation but the progressive peoples of the world rendered positive support and welcome to it. Lee, however, made a rough challenge to the declaration. At a meeting of party executives on August 6, 2001, he persisted in the maintenance of the US troops in south Korea, holding that there was no change in the north and the south failed to make proper countermeasures. By condemning the south side for its "easygoing cognition of reality" and calling for "tough measures against the north", he revealed his true color as a heinous pro-US flunkeyist traitor and anti-reunification element. 4. Lee Hoi-chang did not hesitate to cooperate with the United States in its moves for high-pressure sale of weapons to south Korea. The 33rd south Korea-US annual security consultative meeting held in Washington in mid-November 2001 was a venue of south Korea's humiliating diplomacy toward the United States, at which Seoul accepted burglarious demands of Washington. At the meeting the US side forced south Korea to purchase F-15 fighters, an issue which was not placed on the agenda. This caused a fierce public criticism and the south Korean people bitterly denounced the United States. Lee, however, called his underlings in his office and said. "We should positively cooperate with the United States in the arms sale in order to win the presidential election scheduled for next year. So is the purchase of F-15 fighters. Disregarding whether it is good or bad and whether the people suffer or not, we should accept the US demand on the pretext of mutuality to win the Bush government's favor on this opportunity." Indeed, he is a traitor to the nation who does not hesitate to be an arms dealer to pay the blood tax collected from the people to the United States in pursuit of power. 5. Lee Hoi-chang had a fit of schizophrenia by slandering the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and advocating "unification under the liberal democratic system". When multifarious functions for reunification were being held in the south and the north on the occasion of the first anniversary of the publication of the historic June 15 joint declaration, Lee made frantic efforts to abuse the declaration and return the inter-Korean relations to confrontation. At a party meeting held on June 15, 2001 he frantically tried to slander the declaration, groundlessly talking about a "secret promise". He asserted that there was no other alternative for Korea's reunification but "unification under the liberal democratic system", dumbfounding even GNP lawmakers who attended the meeting. All people condemned the separatist and fascist maniac scheming to reduce the whole Korean Peninsula into a colony of the United States and a barren land of democracy. 6. Lee Hoi-chang made frantic efforts to keep the National Security Law intact. Advocating the "arch enemy theory" from the beginning of last year, he continued to release anachronistic absurdities for the maintenance of the NSL. He asserted that the law was a "legal countermeasure" and "national split would occur if the NSL was revised." Arguing that the revision of the NSL meant "disarmament", he asserted that "it was a policy of the GNP not to tolerate its revision" and "even an evil law should be respected." In disregard of the change of the times and wish of the people, he has acted shamelessly and viciously to keep the anti-reunification evil law as it is. 7. Lee Hoi-chang raised a south Korea-type McCarthyism by releasing all sorts of absurdities as regards the 2001 grand festival for national reunification held in Pyongyang on the occasion of the August 15 Liberation Day. On the occasion of the August 15 Liberation Day the grand festival for reunification involving delegates from the south and the north was successfully held in Pyongyang, the holy city of reunification. Upset by this, Lee Hoi-chang cooked up "accidental cases" to inspire inter-Korean confrontation and raised a frenzy of suppression. He abused the righteous behaviors of north Korea visitors as "undesirable ones". He distorted and fabricated facts, arguing that their behaviors in the north exerted a bad influence upon inter-Korean relations and aggravated contradictions among south Koreans. Owing to his fascist outrage, McCarthyism, which drove the American society into anxiety, horror and terrorism 50-odd years ago, reappeared in south Korea. Several north Korea visitors including Prof. Kang Jong-gu at Dongguk University were detained and their houses and offices were rummaged. They were assaulted by gangsters at the airport. Lee, who raised such a wild wind of suppression and terrorism across south Korea, is a heinous enemy of the entire nation that wishes independent reunification of the country. 8. Lee Hoi-chang conducted a disgraceful behavior of rejoicing over the fruitless sixth inter-Korean ministerial talks. The sixth inter-Korean ministerial talks, which were arranged with much difficulty under a complicated situation, came to a rupture due to the insincere and confrontational attitude of the south side's delegates including Unification Minister Hong Soon-young. Hong, who came to the talks without any preparation, overturned the draft joint press release which had been agreed upon and made rude remarks and behaviors to bring the talks to a rupture. When he returned to Seoul after doing such impudent acts, Lee Hoi-chang encouraged him and praised him as if he were a "triumphant general". When all people were enraged at the stalemated inter-Korean relations due to the rupture of the ministerial talks, Lee was very pleased to see the talks went to rupture. This is an unpardonable anti-reunification crime. 9. Lee Hoi-chang abused the tax investigation of press institutions for inter-Korean confrontation. Lee criticized the tax investigation of media, which an absolute majority of the people supported, as a "press gag", arguing that the crisis of press democracy reached an extreme. He abused the civic groups which conducted a campaign for press reform as "red guards" and "government-patronized organizations". On July 2, 2001, he called an "emergency measure meeting against the anti-media plot" and linked the tax investigation with north Korea that had nothing to do with it. He abused it as an "advance leveling" and "taming of media", thus enraging the people. 10. Lee Hoi-chang is a shameless swindler crazy for power. Once, Lee said that he would neither join in a political party nor conduct political activities. However, it was a whopping lie. On March 1, 2001 he said at a clan meeting that though the dynasty of the Lees from Jeonju was over, their mental foundation remains as it is. He added that when the country undergoes difficulties, the Lees from Jeonju should play a leading role in correcting the basis of the country. He made desperate efforts throughout last year to prepare himself for the supreme power. On every opportunity he paid lip service to "people-first politics" and "security of people's livelihood". Meanwhile, he spent hundreds of millions of won to restore his deserted head family house. He mobilized his private organization called "national innovation committee" to conduct propaganda activities and raise funds for the forthcoming presidential election. * * Now the south Korean people are expressing surging indignation at Lee Hoi-chang who commits pro-US flunkeyist treachery and anti-reunification acts and deceives the people.
