The
above words were spoken by none other than President Clinton on April 24, 1999
referring to the murderous attack at Columbine High School. Please notice
the date of both the occurrence and the remarks. April 24, 1999.
What else was occurring during this time period?
Strangely enough, none other than President Clinton (and his murderous
minions) were rapidly closing in on the first month of the US spearheaded,
funded and inspired 'supragovernmental wilding' against
Yugoslavia.
Here
we have the mental disconnect which seems to epitomize our times; we have such
'luminaries' as WJ Clinton talking about "...putting an end to the culture of
violence..." while simultaneously engaging in round-the-clock illegal bombing of
a nation. Many of these bombing missions, completely and totally illegal
under either international or US Constitutional law, produced many times the
number of victims of Columbine. And, as consensus opinion has it, the
murders and maimings at Columbine were committed by decidedly mentally unstable
boys. What earthly excuse does the Chief Executive of the United States
(and the rest of his willing executioners) have for committing far worse murders
and maimings?
The
somnambulant American public was readily reassured by spin doctors and a willing
lapdog media that we were bombing a country and its people (which posed no
threat to the US or any other member of NATO) for 'humanitarian purposes'.
Perhaps the Columbine daring duo were also acting out of 'humanitarian'
impulses?
Perhaps the most illuminating (for myself, definitely) aspect of the
entire misguided 78 day act of international gang rape was the ease in which
even usually well read and well educated people succumbed to bland reassurances
which flew in the face of logic, fact and reason.
This
brings us to 911. Except, this time, the American public was rudely
wrested from their intentional blindness, ever so temporarily, by an act so
immense as to resist being readily shoved under the rug. However, again,
the American public is being spun, spun so rapidly that if they even bothered to
think they would become dizzy.
We
are told that, on the one hand, since the Taliban fighters are not members of a
'regular armed forces' they don't merit the status of POWs, yet, at the same
time we are pulverizing the ruins of Afghanistan. If the Taliban were not
'regular armed forces', then we are, by definition, bombing Afghani
civilians. And again, we are committing acts of terror to fight
terrorism. Huh? Did I miss something here?
Even
the Bush administration has admitted that it doesn't really have enough evidence
to prove Osama bin Laden's culpability for 911. Though the desire for
revenge is totally understandable, I wonder what would be the reaction in an
American court if a parent whose child were killed by a gang member, simply
drove through the gang's neighborhood in an armored vehicle, indiscriminantly
firing a .50 cal at all and sundry? On second thought, I don't have to
guess, I know. That parent would end up incarcerated if not
incinerated.
Even
the most inveterate liar will occasionally tell the truth, much in the manner in
which it is said that a 1,000 monkeys banging on 1,000 typewriters will
eventually type all the words used in Shakespeare's works. Clinton made a
good point, even though he didn't really mean it. We really do need to
'put an end to the culture of violence' but you don't put an end to the 'culture
of violence' by committing more violence. Unless, of course, you decide to
treat the rest of the world to the solution the Romans used on the
Carthaginians.
