Ananova : Six men arrested in North East anti-terrorist raids ================================= Police in Durham and Cleveland have arrested six men under the Terrorism Act. The arrests follow early morning raids on eight properties. The raid, codenamed Operation Icebolt, involved more than 150 plain clothes, uniformed and armed officers. Officers raided three terraced houses in Darlington and arrested three men aged 29, 31, and 46. In Teesside, police searched five properties in Redcar, Middlesbrough and Hartlepool. They included a terraced and semi-detached houses and one business premises. Three men, aged 29, 37 and 44 were arrested. A spokesman for Durham Police says all six suspects are being held under the Terrorism Act 2000 at an undisclosed location. Detective Superintendent Harry Stephenson, of Durham Police, says members of the public living near the eight properties should not be alarmed. He said: "We firmly believe the people in these areas have nothing to fear in the wake of these arrests." Under the Terrorism Act 2000, suspects can be held for seven days without charge. After 48 hours, officers must make a magistrates application to continue holding suspects.
