[Just as the Polish Pilsudski-Beck military regime's
non-aggression pact with Nazi Germany insured that
Hitler wouldn't invade Poland in September of 1939.
But what is national sovereignty, what cultural pride,
what human integrity, when U.S. ambassador to Poland
Christopher Hill, who has a personal rap sheet on him
sufficient to get him to the top of the docket at any
future Nuremberg Tribunal, pats the ever obedient
Kwasniewski on the head and praises him for there
being 'no better example.'
Example of what is obvious. Here in the States his
name was Benedict Arnold.]

Polish President Says NATO Enlargement Ensures Safer
Europe
Mar 12, 2002 -- (BBC Monitoring) Excerpt from report
by Polish international satellite TV service on 11
March.
[Presenter] According to President Aleksander
Kwasniewski, the more states join NATO, the safer
Europe will become. A day before the third anniversary
of Poland's entry to the alliance, the president spoke
in favor of further NATO enlargement of countries from
Central-East and South Europe...
In the president's view, skeptics' doubts saying that
enlargement would weaken the alliance have not proved
true. Now, the alliance wants to open itself to other
countries.
[Kwasniewski] Poland expects that decisions concerning
this issue, inviting all candidates which fulfil the
membership criteria to NATO, will be made univocally
at the NATO states summit in Prague this year. We are
keeping our fingers crossed for our neighbors and for
each aspiring state from Central-East and South
Europe.
[Presenter] According to representatives from NATO
states and candidates to NATO, which came to Warsaw to
attend a conference organized by National Security
Office and the Marshall Center, only this way can we
ensure safety and combat terrorism.
[Christopher Hill, U.S. ambassador to Poland, in
English fading into Polish translation] Poland has
done a good job and every country of this region which
wants to join the alliance should closely cooperate
with Poland since there is no better example.
[Presenter] We have earned such praises by, among
other things, making changes in our armed forces.
During last three years, we modernized communication
and command systems and we educated army officers so
that they could cooperate with their experienced
colleagues from NATO without any sense of inferiority.
[Defense Minister Jerzy Szmajdzinski] At the same time
we are aware of our weaknesses. The basic ones concern
armament and the equipment of an individual serviceman
as well as a need for modernization of our armed
forces as a whole.
[Presenter] This year we must buy armored personnel
carriers, antitank missiles and multirole aircraft...
