Freedom of the press: Tell us about it!

Nina Khrushcheva's article 'Fidel, Monica and me' (1 March 2002)
<http://salon.com/ent/feature/2002/03/01/fidel_monica/index.html> was
offensive, hypocritical and false.

"I am all for meritocracy... and [d]oing things and succeeding on my own
-- and not on the basis of my last name." Is she joking? Consider the
premise of the article, it's contingent upon her name!

She says: "No one did nepotism better than the Communist Party of the
Soviet Union." Is she nuts? Did any of Nikita's children or relatives
reach high in Soviet office? Compare to the current president of the US
-- the name does have a familiar ring, does it not?

"Fidel... suppress [ing] some anti-socialist demonstration," did she
say? When was the last time Reuters or AP caught such a thing on camera?
The zillions of European and US tourists in Havana certainly don't
report such things. Now: Compare to the tough cop-tactics facing
protesters at any IMF or World Bank get-together in the 'free world.'

Poor Nikita, he must be resting unpeacefully. What a disgraceful
great-granddaughter! And shame on Salon for publishing such junk!
