AFP. 14 March 2002. Milosevic refutes US researcher's testimony over Kosovo. THE HAGUE -- Slobodan Milosevic on Thursday contested the veracity of testimony the day before by a US researcher who baldly accused the former Yugoslav president of war crimes. On Wednesday, US researcher Patrick Ball accused Milosevic of masterminding a systematic campaign to kill ethnic Albanians in Kosovo or drive them out ofthe troubled southern Serbian province. He said Milosevic was using "fabricated documents" in his own defence. During a three-hour cross examination of Ball on Thursday, Milosevic who is conducting his own defence, accused the researcher of having "simplified in the extreme this complex phenomenon which is war." Milosevic maintains the mass exodus of Albanians from Kosovo in March to June 1999 was caused by NATO bombardments and threats from the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). "Only a full account of all the elements which constitute this chaotic situation we call war can be considered as the common cause (of the exodus)," Milosevic said. The former president then cast aspersions on the evidence gathered by Ball from Kosovar refugee camps in Albania and Macedonia and from Albanian border guards.
