UNITED NATIONS - The United States has not decided yet whether Yugoslavia has done enough to cooperate with the Netherlands-based war crimes tribunal — a condition for continuing to receive financial aid, the U.S. ambassador for war crimes issues said Thursday.
"He cannot remain at large. He must go to the Hague (news - web sites)," Prosper said. Mladic and former Bosnian leader Radovan Karadzic are the two most wanted suspects sought by the Hague. Both were past allies of Milosevic. Congress has given Yugoslavia until March 31 to cooperate with the Netherlands-based tribunal or risk losing $120 million in assistance. Acting on a similar deadline last year, the Serbian government arrested and extradited former President Slobodan Milosevic (news - web sites), who is now on trial in The Hague for atrocities his forces committed in Kosovo, Bosnia and Croatia in the 1990s. U.S. authorities have demanded that Belgrade hand over other war crimes suspects. So far, Yugoslav authorities have resisted fulfilling this requirement. Serbia's government on Wednesday adopted the U.N. tribunal's rules that allow the extraditions to the Hague tribunal, saying no local law is necessary as the world body's rules surpass national regulations. The move indicates that it is ready to arrest and extradite at least some of 15 Serb war crimes suspects living in the republic and sought by The Hague. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20020329/ap_on_re_us/un_yugoslavia_3&printer=1 --------------------------- ANTI-NATO INFORMATION LIST ==^================================================================ This email was sent to: [email protected] EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://TOPICA.COM/u/?a84x2u.a9617B Or send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] T O P I C A -- Register now to manage your mail! http://www.topica.com/partner/tag02/register ==^================================================================ |
