Gen. Phung Quang Thanh, member of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee, Deputy Defence Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People's Army (VPA), paid an official visit to Laos from Mar. 31-Apr. 3. The visit was made at the invitation of Major General Khen Khamseng Lathon, member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People's Army (LPA). The Vietnamese delegation held talks with a high-ranking military delegation of the LPA. The two sides informed each other of the situation in their respective countries, exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, and discussed measures to implement a cooperation protocol signed between the defence ministers of the two countries in Ha Noi in February this year. The talks took place in an atmosphere of solidarity, friendship and mutual understanding. The Vietnamese delegation paid courtesy visits to Prime Minister Bounyang Vorachith, and Lieut. Gen. Douangchay Phichith, LPRP Politburo member and Defence Minister.
