����WASHINGTON,
April 10 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. authorities have identified a body as that of
a police officer suspected of killing five people and wounding two in
Ocean City, New Jersey State, police said on Wednesday.
����Edward Lutes, a police officer for 15 years, was found dead ofan
apparent self-inflicted gunshot in his car in Barnegat Township,said Greg
Sakowicz, an Ocean County prosecutor.
����Lutes was wanted for the shooting that happened late Tuesday in
Dover Township, a New Jersey shore community. Police said Lutesshot five
of his neighbors, two people who lived next door and three who were in a
house across the street.
����Lutes later went to nearby Barnegat Township and wounded his police
chief James Costello, police said. A person was also wounded in the leg
near Lutes' residence and was taken to a hospital.
����Costello, who is in stable condition with wounds in the leg
andwrist, said he could not explain the rampage. "Lutes was a very close
friend of mine," he said.
����Police would not speculate on a motive for any of the
