BELGRADE, Yugoslavia, April 13 (UPI) -- Former Serbian Interior Minister Vlajko Stojiljkovic, a war crimes suspect, died Saturday at a Belgrade hospital, officials said.

His death came as a memorial service was held for Miodrag Kovac, Yugoslavia's labor, health and social affairs minister who committed suicide late Thursday, Serb media outlet B-92 reported.

Stojiljkovic, 65, died two days after shooting himself in the temple in front of the federal parliament building.

He shot himself hours after learning of the passage of a law that would have permitted his arrest and extradition to the U.N. war crimes tribunal.

Stojiljkovic blamed top Yugoslav and Serbian leaders for his death, in a suicide note read to reporters by Aleksandar Vucic, an official of the Serbian Radical Party. He said "patriots of this country will know how to avenge me."

Stojiljkovic was one of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's closest aides.

Kovac was found dead in a hotel in Madrid Friday. He left a note saying he had always worked honestly and honorably for Montenegro and Yugoslavia and that he was a good Orthodox Christian, B-92 said.

Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica and a number of senior state officials attended his service.
