Telegraph. 23 September 2002. Boy aged 13 among five shot dead by Israelis.

RAMALLAH -- Israeli troops shot dead five Palestinians, including a
13-year-old boy, yesterday as demonstrators took to the streets in
support of Yasser Arafat, who has been under siege in his Ramallah
compound for three days.

Two British witnesses described how an Israeli soldier killed their
child guide, 13-year-old Bahaa Albahish, in Nablus with a single shot to
the chest.

"We were walking down the street, four internationals and Bahaa, and
there had been some youths throwing stones at an Israeli patrol made up
of a tank and an armoured personnel carrier," said Ewa Jasiewicz, 24, a
volunteer with the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement.

"The incident had calmed down and it did not seem to be a threatening
situation. Suddenly an armoured vehicle appeared around the corner and
stopped. We stood at the side of the street and a single shot rang out."

"I think it was from an M-16, not the heavy machinegun mounted on top. I
felt the bullet near me. I looked around and saw Bahaa bleeding from the
chest. Soon blood was bubbling from his mouth and he was dead within minutes."

The boy had tagged along with volunteers from the International
Solidarity Movement for months, showing them around the city. The group
is made up of foreign volunteers who monitor the actions of the Israeli army.

Miss Jasiewicz said: "I do not think it was a random shot or a ricochet.
The soldiers knew who he was. He had been with the volunteers since April."

A second British volunteer, who gave his name as Al, said: "There were a
few children around, but they were out of stone-throwing range.

"What had been going on was routine. The soldiers typically fire in the
air or at the ground to scatter the children. We were standing still at
the time."

Dr Ghassan Hamdan, chairman of the Medical Relief Committee in Nablus,
said: "The boy was hit by a single shot in the chest and died instantly."

The Israeli army said it was investigating the incident.
