"All world countries must confront this danger and try to prevent this from happening," he said as he renewed Iran's appeal to its doorstep Iraq, which waged an eight-year war since 1980 against the Islamic Republic, to accept UN resolutions. Khatami also invited "American statesmen not to stand against the world's public opinion and prevent from the breakout of a tragedy."
