NABLUS -- Jewish settlers killed a Palestinian man when they opened fire at people picking olives in a village grove south of the West Bank city of Nablus on Sunday, witnesses and a local official said. "A group of 10 to 12 armed settlers opened fire and tried to disperse the olive-pickers," said Ghaled Myadmeh, mayor of Aqrabah village. "They opened fire extensively and Hani Yusuf, 24, was killed and another man wounded." Myadmeh said he had filed a complaint with Israeli liaison officials on Saturday after the same armed group fired on the olive-pickers. Israeli army spokesmen in Jerusalem said they were checking the report. Palestinian witnesses said Israeli soldiers were in the area at the time, and that the settlers had surveyed the Palestinians through binoculars before firing. The day before, two Palestinians, Ghaleb Abu Nasar, 40, and Atef Beni Jaber, 40, said from Rafidya hospital they and two others were gathering olives from their trees when about 15 settlers from the nearby Jewish settlement of Itamar attacked them with rocks and rifle butts. Doctors said all four were hospitalized with severe cuts and wounds.
