US forces should remain in Afghanistan: Afghan Govt

-More than 10,000 American and other foreign troops
remain stationed in Afghanistan.

On the eve of the anniversary of the US led bombing
campaign in Afghanistan, the new Afghan government
says US forces should stay on.

More than 10,000 American and other foreign troops
remain stationed in Afghanistan.

Honouring the anniversary of the beginning of US led
military operations in Afghanistan, the interim
government hailed the campaign as a liberation
bringing hope and opportunity.

But Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah
said many challenges still faced the war-torn country.

While the security situation had improved, two
ministers were assassinated this year a fate which was
only narrowly avoided by President Hamid Karzai.

Thirty people were also killed in a bomb blast in
Kabul last month.

Outside of the capital, some warlords still reign
beyond the control of the central government and US
forces are subjected to random rocket attacks from
time to time.

But one year on Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah
said the international community had promised it would
not surrender its continuing support by shifting focus
to Iraq.
