In this volume and in subsequent extrapolation of its main points by Russian think tank commentators (see The Russian Issues and Russian Observer in particular) the Brzezinski plan for Northeastern Europe is essentially this: Playing off alleged 'Western Petrine Christianity' as the underpinning of a common European civilization 'from the Atlantic to the Urals,' Ukraine is to be divided into Western Uniate (Catholic) and Eastern Orthodox segments, the first to basically be ceded to Poland. Russia is to fragment into three distinct political and economic entities - European, Asian and Siberian - with all the non-Russian former Soviet republics to become bilateral US military and political client states. In fact what has largely happened, in the latter instance, over the past three years. especially in what Brzezinski quaintly deems the Eurasian Balkans. The updated applications of his blueprint include what Russian political analysts have referred to as the 'Milosevic model' for Belarus and Ukraine; that is, US-orchestrated regime changes and the subsequent installation of pro-US, pro-NATO governments. The following report (and an intensified campaign by the US State Department to sanction and threaten Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Armenia over the alleged sales of 'dual use' equipment to Iraq and Iran), as well as Poland-based putative opposition movements operating against both Belarus and Ukraine, suggests the operation is well under way. The conspiracy is Brzezinski's and no one else's, but what he seems to envision is something approximating the map of Northeastern Europe as it existed during the Dual Monarchy of Poland-Lithuania in the 1600s. NATO is a - is the - indispensible mechanism for effecting this not-so-grand design.] Ukrainian President Raps Poland For Interfering In Domestic Affairs KIEV, Oct 8 (AFP) - President Leonid Kuchma criticized Poland on Tuesday for interfering in Ukraine's domestic politics by offering to host talks between the government and opposition groups. "That resembles interference in the domestic affairs of Ukraine," Kuchma told journalists. "We can sort things out for ourselves." The Polish government proposed on Friday that Kuchma and opposition groups hold talks in Warsaw on October 15-16 on the sidelines of an international conference on European Union and NATO enlargement. Over the past several weeks Ukrainian opposition groups have stepped up protests against Kuchma, who they accuse of being corrupt and authoritarian. Despite longstanding ties to Kuchma, Polish leaders have not avoided meeting with his poltical opponents. During a visit to western Ukraine on Friday Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller met with a group of Ukrainian opposition lawmakers. Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski has also recently met with former Ukranian prime minister Viktor Yuschenko, another prominent opposition politician.
