MINSK, 11 October. /RIA Novosti correspondents Olesya
Luchaninova, Vera Pollo/. The Belorussian Defense
Ministry denied statements of Ukrainian opposition
regarding transfer of three "Koltchuga" (Hauberk)
radar systems from the Belorussian territory to
Ukraine.
Chief of the press service of the Belorussian Defense
ministry Leonid Zakharenko stated on Friday to RIA
Novosti that such statements "did not correspond to
reality." Another representative of the Belorussian
Defense Ministry, chief of the department of
informational support of the Ministry Nikolai Romanyuk
stressed during his talks with the RIA Novosti
correspondent that "all Koltchuga radar stations which
the Belorussian army was equipped with were stationed
at their sites." He characterized allegations of
Ukrainian opposition regarding the radar stations as a
"senseless ballyhoo." The Belorussian Security Council
provided no comments to RIA Novosti regarding these
statements of Ukrainian opposition having indicated
that "they were statements of a non-official
representative of a neighboring state." Earlier the
Ukrainian Defense Ministry also refuted statements of
Ukrainian opposition's statements according to which
on Thursday night three Koltchuga radar stations were
transferred to the territory of Ukraine from the
Belorussian territory.
On Friday leader of the opposition bloc "BYUT", former
Ukrainian vice-premier Yulia Timoshenko, stated at a
press conference that three Koltchuga systems were
delivered to the Ukrainian territory from Belorussia
which would be demonstrated to international experts.
On Thursday Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma signed
an instruction to provide assistance to international
experts who were investigating the alleged shipments
to Iraq of Koltchuga radar systems. According to the
information provided to RIA Novosti in the
administration of the head of the Ukrainian state,
this enactment establishes a commission designed to
create all necessary conditions for international
experts to carry out efficient and coordinated work.
The USA ascertains that Ukraine in circumvention of
sanctions of the UN Security Council sold Koltchuga
radars to Iraq. On its part Kiev denies sale of radar
stations and expresses its readiness to present all
necessary information to international experts.
US and British experts are expected to arrive in
