I heard excerpts of Sen. Clinton's speech, and it was pretty revolting.  She talked about Iraq using poison gasses on Kurds, and though she admitted that the US was supporting Iraq at this time in their war against Iran, what she didn't mention is that at the time that was happening, she never raised a voice of protest against it.

She also "credited" her husband with bringing about "regime change" in Serbia, implying that that should be the model for "regime change" in Iraq, and praised the role of sactions and military action against Serbia in bringing about this "regime change", not saying anything about the terrific civilian death toll caused by both the bombing and the sanctions.

According to Pacifica radio, the constituent calls coming into her office were overwhelmingly against war, but she voted for war anyway, because she claimed "the pro-war people just didn't call in".

However, Pacifica also said there were people who staged a sit-in in her office in protest of her vote.  I suspect many of them were gullible "liberals" who initially voted for her, but have now finally seen the light about how crooked she really is!

peacefully yours,
Nancy Hey

WASHINGTON This has always been a place where people say the opposite of what they mean. But last week, the capital soared to ominous new Orwellian heights.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton voted to let the president use force in Iraq because she didn't want the president to use force in Iraq.

Giving Mr. Bush bipartisan support, she said, would make his success at the U.N. "more likely, and, therefore, war less likely."

The White House feigned interest in
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/10/13/opinion/13DOWD.html The fact that the president speaks only about Iraq, while his neighbors down the street speak only about the shooter, reinforces the sense that this administration is so obsessed with Saddam it has lost touch with the real anxieties of many Americans. Mr. Bush wants to rally the nation to impose gun control on Baghdad, but he won't lift a finger to impose gun control on Bethesda, six miles from the White House.
