AP. 28 February 2003. Greek rally protests EU education meeting, Iraqi crisis. ATHENS -- More than 10,000 students and educators marched through central Athens Friday in a protest that started over a European Union meeting and ended as an anti-war rally. The demonstrators first gathered to draw attention to a two-day meeting of EU education ministers that begins Saturday outside Athens. Greece currently holds the EU presidency. Protesters claim the EU officials could try to weaken public education systems through cost cutting and other measures. Later, the marchers headed to the heavily guarded U.S. Embassy to denounce a possible war against Iraq. "We will stop this war, Americans are killers," the marchers chanted.
