Gay.com. 28 February 2003. George Michael records anti-war song. LONDON -- George Michael plans to record an anti-war song for MTV Europe this weekend. The singer, who in recent weeks has been outspoken in his opposition to a possible war with Iraq, will record a version of Don McLean's "The Grave." The video will air exclusively on MTV channels, and will be available for streaming via MTV U.K.'s Web site. "The Grave," written by McLean in 1971 and forming part of his "American Pie" album, is known for its strong anti-war lyrics, telling of a 20-year-old Marine who watches his comrades die one by one, before dying himself. MTV said that George intends to keep the lyrics largely unchanged. The new song comes two weeks after Ms. Dynamite performed alongside a video of George at this year's Brit Awards, reworking his hit single "Faith" into an anti-war song. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
