Bulgaria's foreign minister urged the establishment of NATO bases in Bulgaria as he anticipates their positive effect on the country's security and economic growth. "The sooner, the better," Foreign Minister Passy said about the possible bases that the alliance could set up in the future member Bulgaria. However, the minister refused to answer a question whether bases could be established before the factual membership expected in 2004. Last weekend, Passy said that no consultations are being currently held about the bases that Bulgaria is ready to provide.
