Police close magazine | 20:45 | Beta BELGRADE -- Monday – Serbian police, acting under state of emergency regulations, have closed the offices of weekly Identitet, and have banned publication of the magazine. In its cover story last Tuesday, the day before the assassination of Zoran Djindjic, Identitet claimed to have information that the prime minister would be murdered. Serbian government members were present as police raided the magazine’s premises on Saturday evening, daily Danas reports State officials had earlier claimed that Identitet was financed by the Zemun Gang which is believed to behind last week’s assassination of the Serbian prime minister. Danas also reports that the magazine’s publisher, ID Publishing, had been fined 500,000 dinars (about 8,000 euros) and the editor and deputy editor 100,000 dinars each. Under the emergency regulations there is no appeal against the closure.
