Radio Netherlands November 16, 2009 Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine join forces Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine have formed a joint military brigade. The news was announced on the sidelines of a meeting of EU defence ministers in Brussels. The unit will comprise between 2,000 and 5,000 soldiers. The headquarters will be located in Poland. Lithuania and Poland are already members of the European Union and the NATO alliance, and Ukraine wants to follow their example. Poland says the formation of a joint brigade is intended to tie Ukraine closer to Western structures.
