Rustavi2 November 19, 2009 NATO to discuss MAP for Georgia, Ukraine in Belgium in December NATO will assess in December the progress reached by Ukraine and Georgia on their way towards a membership action plan (MAP). NATO spokesman James Appathurai said on Wednesday that the assessments would be made at a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine and NATO-Georgia Commissions to be held in Brussels in early December at the level of NATO foreign ministers. Military reform in Georgia and the implementation of its first annual national programme in cooperation with NATO was reviewed on Wednesday by the NATO-Georgia Commission at the level of ambassadors, which involved Georgian Vice Prime Minister Georgy Baramidze, First Deputy Foreign Minister Giga Bokeria and First Defence Minister Nikoloz Vashadze. They also discussed the situation in the Caucasus, specifically around South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which Appathurai said were Georgian regions. The alliance expressed concern over the security situation in the region, specifically over incidents that look like abductions of Georgian citizens, and urged all parties to take efforts to prevent any incidents in this region.
