NATO to send more troops to Afghanistan

NATO is planning increase its troop contingent in Afghanistan by 4,000-5,000
servicemen early next year.

A NATO spokesman told reporters on Friday the ultimate decision would be made
at a meeting in NATO’s Allied Military Headquarters in the Belgian town of
Mons.

About 3,000 fresh troops from NATO and non-NATO countries will reportedly be
sent to Afghanistan to join the 1,500-strong interim force that was deployed
for the period of Afghan presidential polls but will now stay on.
