Maybe your nsd eats all of your ram+swap? - some strange memory leak
perhaps.

This happened to me quite often some time ago when my testing server had
too little swap. But with memory leaks it's always too little swap...

Try getting some page all the time watching 'top' in the background. If
that fails, try different stuff - maybe read the access logs on what
happened before it stopped.
